This website is intended to spotlight the freelance activities of Larry A. Jones, or L.A. Jones Photography. Most of my freelance activities tend to focus on event and wedding-related photography, as well as corporate photojournalism and environmental portraiture. I also am developing a collection of nature and wildlife photos and travel images with a special emphasis on Texas.
This site continues to be a work in progress as I continue to explore better ways of conveying the type of freelance assignments I am seeking. Because I already have a full-time job, which I enjoy and love, I have the luxury of pursuing the freelance photography assignments that I will enjoy—whether working with couples who are just starting their new life together as husband and wife, telling the story of some corporate or industrial development as it unfolds, or simply capturing the beauty and hidden treasures of cities or areas I have visited or am fortunate enough to live near.
Photography has almost always been a prominent part of my life. I remember receiving an Eldon “kit camera,” that my father and I built together. Well… I watched as he put the camera together and we both agreed that it was a group project. Soon, I was shooting roll after roll of 120 film. Within a few years my interest had shifted to the wonders of the darkroom—processing my black-and-white film in black plastic tanks and then printing and watching as the prints appeared in a 5x7 vinyl tray of developer.
Today, many years later, photography continues be a central focus of my job as a corporate communications manager for an electric utility company. Having previously worked as an account executive for public relations agency, as well as a reporter/photographer for various newspapers and editor of two small-town weekly newspapers.
The evolution is not surprising given my desire to combine my writing, photography and graphic design background. This goal guided my education plan. In addition to my Bachelor of Arts degree and Journalism and Associate of Arts degree in Photojournalism from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, I also completed post-graduate courses at Brooks Institute of Photography at Santa Barbara, California.
